What is Xeomin filler?

Xeomin is a dermal filler used to treat moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows in adults. The main product in Xeominis medically known as incobotulinumtoxinA (the same neurotoxin used in Botox) which is made from the bacteria that causes botulism, a particularly nasty form of food poisoning. Botulinum blocks the nerve activity in your muscles which causes a temporary reduction in the muscle activity and thereby relaxes them. Xeomin is very similar to other fillers on the market, including Botox and Dysport, which are all FDA approved injections for the treatment of facial wrinkles.

How often should you get Xeomin?

Xeomin treats fine lines by targeting the specific facial muscles that cause them. The results from Xeomin are temporary and similar to those seen in Dysport and Botox, and you will need maintenance injections every few months (usually every 3 to 6 months) to help maintain the results from the treatment.

Xeomin is often referred to as “the naked Botox”, due to the purity of the product and its similarities intargeting specific muscles, but they are still very different and are not interchangeable. Xeomin can take up to 4 days to show the full benefits from the injection treatment, although some may see results sooner. Each client is different, and the results will vary as well.

What should I Expect During a Xeomin Treatment?

The Xeomin injection treatment does not take very long to complete, on average we are able to complete the appointment within 10 to 20 minutes. No anesthesia is required for this appointment; however, to help you feel more comfortable during your appointment you may be offered a topical anesthetic or a cold pack to reduce any discomfort at the injection site(s).

After your Xeomin treatment you will see the results in as little as 3 to 4 days. The injected area(s) may appear to look like a mosquito bite for an hour or so after your appointment, and some patients have noticed it remain swollen for a few hours.

Your skin may show a bit of redness around the treated area, this should only last a few days. Some patients may experience mild bruising around the injected area, to prevent and minimize the appearance of bruising, patients should avoid any products that contain aspirin or any high-dosage of vitamin E for up to a minimum of 10 days after the treatment.
